FAQ
Can using acid skincare products cause breakouts?
A: Sometimes, yes — but not always for the wrong reasons. When you start using exfoliating acids (like AHA, BHA, or PHA), your skin goes through a process called “purging.”
This happens because acids speed up cell turnover, helping to bring out trapped oil, dead skin, and impurities to the surface. It can look like small pimples or whiteheads, especially around the T-zone or areas that usually break out.
Purging: temporary, small bumps, usually clears within 2–4 weeks.
How to Minimize It (DESLY advice):
Start slow: Use acids 2–3 times a week, not daily at first.
Hydrate well: Pair with soothing, barrier-strengthening products (e.g. DESLY’s The Intensive Hydrating Face Mask or Aqua Gel Moisturiser).
Avoid layering too many actives: Don’t mix acids with retinol or high-strength vitamin C in the same routine.
If skin feels sore or dry: Stop for a few days and focus on repair products.
💡 Pharmacist’s Tip:
“Acids don’t create new problems — they reveal what’s been hiding under your skin. The key is balance: gentle exfoliation + strong hydration. Use them continuously for clearer skin.”
How long does it take to see results?
A: It depends on your skin condition and the type of product — because skin renewal doesn’t happen overnight.
✨ For normal, healthy skin:
Your skin naturally renews every 28 days, so you may start seeing visible improvements within 3–4 weeks when using the right products consistently.
✨ For damaged or problematic skin (e.g. sensitive, acne-prone, or barrier-weakened):
The renewal process is slower — around 45 to 60 days — because your skin first needs to repair its barrier before active ingredients can work effectively.
That’s why it’s important to be patient and consistent — real change happens from within, not instantly.
Can your products be mixed with other products?
They can be used with other products, but if you are using serums from other brands, it is recommended
to use DESLY serums first (more hydrating texture).
Acid serums from other brands should not be used simultaneously with DESLY acid serums (The All-In-One Retinol Serum / The Lactic Acid Exfoliating Treatment), or alternate morning and evening use to avoid irritating the skin.
Example:
- Morning: DESLY The Lactic Acid Exfoliating Treatment,
- Evening: Brand X acid serum
- Morning: Brand X acid serum,
- Evening: DESLY The All-In-One Retinol Serum / The Lactic Acid Exfoliating Treatment
Can these products be used after laser or medical aesthetic treatments?
The hydrating series (The Niacinamide & Centella Moisturizing Face Wash, The Intensive Hydrating Treatment Toner, The Intensive Hydrating Treatment Serum, The Intensive Hydrating Aqua Gel Moisturiser, The Intensive Hydrating Face Treatment Mask) can help repair and calm the skin.
If there are open wounds, wait until they are healed before using (The All-In-One Retinol Serum / The Lactic Acid Exfoliating Treatment / The 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid + Arbutin Brightening Booster Treatment / The Prebiotics & Lactic Acid Pore Purifying Clay Mask).
If there are no wounds, products can be used. For post-extraction acne wounds after a facial, you can still apply the products to help reduce inflammation, but mild stinging may occur.
